What IB Physics Covers

The course is organised into five themes: A. Space, time and motion; B. The particulate nature of matter; C. Wave behaviour; D. Fields; and E. Nuclear and quantum physics. HL students cover additional content inside those themes, including rigid body mechanics and special relativity, which used to sit in optional topics.

Where IB Physics Marks Are Usually Lost

• Uncertainties. Propagating absolute and percentage uncertainties, and showing them as error bars, runs through Paper 1B, Paper 2 and the internal assessment.
• The data booklet. Knowing which equations are given, and rearranging them quickly, saves time in every paper.
• Fields and quantum physics at HL. These are the most mathematical parts of the course and reward regular, timed practice.
• The internal assessment. Physics investigations are often let down by weak uncertainty analysis, which feeds straight into the data analysis and evaluation criteria.

IB Physics and UK University Applications

Physics and engineering courses at UK universities often expect HL Physics alongside HL Maths Analysis and Approaches, so check each course's entry requirements before your child finalises their HL choices. UCAS offers are made on predicted grades, so a strong start in DP1 matters. Exam entries are made through your child's IB World School and its DP coordinator.

How Lessons Fit a London Week

Every lesson is live, 1-on-1 and online, with the same tutor each week. Sessions are arranged in UK time (GMT, or BST in summer) around school and co-curricular commitments, usually on weekday evenings or at weekends. Parents receive monthly progress updates, and every new student starts with a free diagnostic trial session.
