Why Cambridge IGCSE
Demands a Specialist

Cambridge IGCSE is assessed by Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) and is one of the most widely recognised qualifications for 14–16 year olds globally. It is taken by students in over 160 countries, and the results carry direct weight in A-Level subject selection, predicted grades for UK university applications, and entry to competitive programmes. A grade at Cambridge IGCSE shapes the next two years of a student's education.

What makes specialist tutoring essential is the gap between knowing a subject and knowing the paper. Cambridge mark schemes are precise. Command words β€” describe, explain, evaluate, calculate, state β€” carry specific meaning and attract marks in specific ways. A student who understands the content but writes answers in the wrong style will consistently underperform. Our tutors know the Cambridge CAIE mark scheme at the level of an examiner. They know which marks go where, what the examiner expects in a 6-mark question, and how to train a student to write answers that collect marks reliably.

We cover all Cambridge IGCSE subjects including Maths (Extended and Core), Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business Studies, Accounting, Computer Science, English Language, French, Psychology, Sociology, and Urdu. Every session is 1-on-1 and built around the specific paper and tier your child is sitting.

We serve Cambridge IGCSE students across every major international school market β€” UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Malaysia, Singapore, Egypt, the UK. All sessions are online and scheduled around your time zone and school calendar.

What Makes Velocity the Right Choice
for Cambridge IGCSE Students

🎯

Mark Scheme Precision

Cambridge IGCSE marks are won or lost on how answers are written, not just whether the student knows the content. Our tutors teach to the CAIE mark scheme β€” command words, point structures, examiner expectations β€” from session one.

πŸ“š

Subject Specialists Only

Every tutor at Velocity works in their subject specifically. No generalists. The tutor covering Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry knows the CAIE specification at the same depth as the examiner who wrote the paper.

🌍

Flexible International Scheduling

Our students are in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Singapore, Egypt, the UK, and beyond. Sessions are scheduled around your school calendar and local time zone β€” nothing assumed to be Monday–Friday 9–5.

πŸ“ˆ

Grade-Focused Preparation

We assess current level honestly in the free trial, identify the exact syllabus gaps, and build preparation that targets the available marks. Students at a C can reach a B or A. Students aiming for A* get the precision they need.

Sitting Cambridge IGCSE
as a Private Candidate?

Private candidates β€” students sitting Cambridge IGCSE outside a registered school β€” are a significant part of our student base. They register through British Council centres or Cambridge-accredited exam centres in their country, and they need the same structured preparation that school students receive, delivered differently.

We build the full Cambridge IGCSE programme from first principles: systematic syllabus coverage, past paper practice, mark scheme training, and progress tracking throughout. Whether preparing across five subjects or one, we build around the specific exam series and timeline.

Private candidates often come to us with limited time before the May/June or October/November series. We are direct about what is achievable in that window and structure preparation around the highest-impact areas first.

Cambridge IGCSE Tutoring β€”
Frequently Asked

A Cambridge IGCSE tutor is a subject specialist who teaches the Cambridge CAIE syllabus specifically β€” not just the general topic. At Velocity, every tutor knows the exact mark scheme, command words, and paper structure for their subject.
We cover all core Cambridge IGCSE subjects: Maths (Extended and Core), Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business Studies, Accounting, Computer Science, English Language, French, Psychology, Sociology, and Urdu. Both CAIE and Edexcel IGCSE versions are covered.
Cambridge IGCSE is an international qualification assessed by Cambridge CAIE, used in international schools worldwide. The UK GCSE (AQA, OCR, Edexcel GCSE) is a separate qualification with different syllabuses, mark schemes, and paper structures. Our tutors specialise in Cambridge IGCSE β€” not the UK national curriculum boards.
Yes. We work with private candidates in every market we serve β€” UAE, Saudi Arabia, UK, Malaysia, Egypt, and beyond. We build the full preparation programme from first principles, paced around the student's specific exam series and timeline.
Our students regularly achieve A and A* grades. Results depend on starting level, time available before the exam, and preparation consistency. We assess current level honestly in the free trial before any enrollment commitment is made.
Yes. Every new student begins with a free diagnostic trial session. We assess current level, map the gaps against the Cambridge syllabus, and discuss the exam timeline β€” before any commitment to continue is made. No obligation after the trial.
IGCSE stands for International General Certificate of Secondary Education. It is an internationally recognised qualification, usually taken around ages 14 to 16, that prepares students for A-Levels, the IB Diploma and university. Cambridge (CAIE) is one of the two main boards, alongside Pearson Edexcel.
They are closely related and equally recognised. The GCSE is taken in UK schools, while the IGCSE is its international version, designed for students worldwide and offered by boards such as Cambridge and Edexcel. Universities treat them as equivalent.
They are set to the same standard and treated as equivalent by universities. Some IGCSE papers are fully exam-based with little or no coursework, which can feel more demanding, but neither is officially harder. We prepare students for the exact paper and mark scheme they sit.
Cambridge IGCSE is graded mainly on the A*-G scale (A* down to G, with U for ungraded), and on the 9-1 scale (9 highest down to 1) for some subjects in certain regions. A grade C, or 4 on the 9-1 scale, is the standard pass. We build each plan around the student's target grade.
In tiered subjects such as Maths and the Sciences, the Core curriculum leads to grades C to G, while the Extended curriculum leads to grades A* to E and gives access to the top grades. We assess each student and advise on the tier that best matches their target.
Most students take between five and nine IGCSE subjects, with seven to eight common for those aiming at competitive universities. Schools usually require core subjects such as Maths, English and a Science, plus options. We help prioritise the subjects that matter most for a student's next step.
The main Cambridge IGCSE codes are Mathematics 0580, Additional Mathematics 0606, Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610, English First Language 0500, Economics 0455 and Business Studies 0450. We tutor all of these across Core and Extended tiers.
Cambridge IGCSE has two main exam series each year, May/June and October/November. We plan each student's preparation backwards from their chosen series so revision and past-paper practice peak at the right time.
Private candidates register through an authorised Cambridge exam centre, such as a British Council office or a registered school, choosing their subjects and components and paying the entry fees. Deadlines usually fall a few months before the series, and we help students plan preparation around them.
A grade C, or 4 on the 9-1 scale, is widely treated as a standard pass. Grades A* and A (9 to 7) are considered strong and are often needed for competitive A-Level, IB and university pathways. We set each student a realistic target grade and build the plan around it.
Yes. Homeschooled and independent students regularly sit Cambridge IGCSE as private candidates at an authorised exam centre. Our online 1-on-1 tutoring is well suited to these students, giving them structure, past-paper practice and accountability.
Yes. Cambridge IGCSE is recognised worldwide by universities and employers, including in the UK, the US and across the international system, as evidence of secondary-level achievement and as a foundation for A-Levels and the IB.
Command words are the instruction words in exam questions, such as state, describe, explain, calculate and evaluate, and each one tells you exactly what the examiner wants. Marks are lost when answers do not match the command word, so we train students to recognise and answer them precisely.
IGCSE is usually a two-year course taken in Years 10 and 11, but private candidates, resit students and those joining late often prepare in a shorter, focused period. We build the plan around the time available and the target exam series.
