Qatar is unusual: a student can earn a degree from an American university without leaving the country. Education City in Doha hosts branch campuses of Carnegie Mellon, Georgetown, Northwestern, Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts and Weill Cornell Medicine, alongside HEC Paris and the home-grown Hamad Bin Khalifa University.
That means Qatar families often weigh three options at once: a US campus abroad, a US campus in Doha, or a UK or regional university. The SAT is useful for the first two, and each campus publishes its own test policy, so the right target depends on the shortlist.

Because College Board works to New York time, each deadline in Qatar falls at dawn on the day after the US date. The table shows the exact local time for every remaining sitting this year and next.

Starting now? Aim for March 2027. Most students in Qatar prepare for 8 to 12 weeks, so the 6 March 2027 sitting is the realistic first target if you begin in December or early January, with 1 May and 5 June as retake options. Tell us your level and target date and we will send a plan on WhatsApp.

Qatar has a compact network of 17 to 18 SAT centres, nearly all in Doha, with a few in Al Wakrah and one in Al Rayyan. Every centre listed for November and December still had seats when we checked.

The test costs US$111 in Qatar: $68 plus the $43 international fee (College Board fees). With fewer centres than larger countries, it is worth registering as soon as the date is fixed so you get the centre closest to home.

Education City campuses: the US universities in Doha admit students through their own admissions offices, and their testing policies can change from year to year. Before you set a target, check the current policy on each campus’s admissions page; our guide to test-optional universities explains what “optional” really means.
Universities in the United States: a strong SAT gives admissions officers a common measure for a student from a British, IB or American school in Qatar, and it can support merit scholarship applications.
UK and regional universities: these use A-Level or IB grades instead. Students applying to both the UK and the US can compare the two routes in UK vs US applications.
Students in Grade 11 or Year 12 often take a first SAT in December, when school pressure is lower than in the summer exam term, and keep May or June as a retake.
The 6 March 2027 date is likely to fall near the end of Ramadan, which is expected to begin around 8 February 2027 depending on the moon sighting. If fasting and late nights make that hard, December or May are better choices.
For applications with autumn deadlines, aim to finish testing by the end of Grade 11 or the first sitting of Grade 12. That keeps the final school year free for essays and coursework.
