Which Maths Exam Is Your Child Sitting?

The biggest difference between the boards is the calculator. Since 2025, Cambridge IGCSE has a non-calculator paper at each tier, while Edexcel 4MA1 allows a calculator in both papers. At A Level, the choice of applied papers shapes the whole course.

Where Maths Marks Are Usually Lost

• No working. Method marks are only available when the steps are written down, so a single slip with no working can cost a whole question.
• The non-calculator paper. Cambridge IGCSE students used to older past papers are often under-practised at fractions, surds and standard form by hand.
• Exact answers. Edexcel students with a calculator in every paper lose accuracy marks when the question wants a surd or an exact value.
• Algebra at A Level. Sign errors and rushed manipulation in Pure 1 and Pure 3 cause more lost marks than gaps in content.
• Timing. Pure papers of 1 hour 50 minutes for 75 marks leave little slack, so timed practice matters from the start of Year 13.

How Lessons Fit a Singapore Week

Every lesson is live, 1-on-1 and online, with the same tutor each week. Sessions are arranged in Singapore Standard Time (SGT, UTC+8) around school and co-curricular commitments, usually on weekday evenings or at weekends. Parents receive monthly progress updates, and every new student starts with a free diagnostic trial session.
